Coronary Calcium Scoring with First Generation Dual-Source Photon-Counting CT—First Evidence from Phantom and In-Vivo Scans

چکیده
We evaluated the accuracy of coronary artery calcium (CAC) scoring on a dual-source photon-counting detector CT (PCD-CT). An anthropomorphic chest phantom underwent ECG-gated sequential scanning PCD-CT at 120 kV with four radiation dose levels (CTDIvol, 2.0–8.6 mGy). Polychromatic images (T3D) and virtual monoenergetic (VMI), from 60 to 75 keV without quantum iterative reconstruction (no QIR) QIR strength 1–4, were reconstructed. For reference, same was scanned conventional energy-integrating (120 kV; filtered back projection) identical doses. CAC in 20 patients no 1–4) included. In phantom, there differences between scores different doses (all, p > 0.05). Images 70 keV, (CAC score, 649); 65 3 (656); keV; QIR4 (648) T3D, (656) showed <1% deviation reference (653). significantly decreased increasing < 0.001) for each 5 keV-increase 0.001). Patient data (median score: 86 [inter-quartile range: 38–978] keV) confirmed relationships reconstructions phantom. First in-vivo experience clinical system shows accurate VMI levels.

متن کاملDual-color photon-counting histogram.
We report on the development of dual-color photon-counting histogram (PCH) analysis. Dual-color PCH is an extension of regular PCH and considers the photon counts received in two detection channels instead of one. Because each detection channel records a different color, dual-color PCH distinguishes fluorescent species not only by differences in their brightness, but also according to their col...
متن کاملThe dual-color photon counting histogram with non-ideal photodetectors.
Dual-color photon counting histogram (PCH) analysis utilizes the photon counts in two detection channels to distinguish species by differences in brightness and color. Here we modify the existing dual-color PCH theory, which assumes ideal detectors, to include the non-ideal nature of the detector. Specifically, we address the effects of deadtime and afterpulsing. Both effects modify the shape o...

Background The widespread availability of the coronary artery calcium scan to diagnose coronary artery atheroma semiquantitatively and its prognostic significance has frequently resulted in a difficult therapeutic decision for physicians caring for asymptomatic patients. Patients and Risk Factors Of particular concern are patients over 40 years of age and young adults characterized by multipl...

BACKGROUND Identification and differentiation of coronary atherosclerotic plaques may improve risk stratification for incident coronary events. OBJECTIVE We investigated the ability of dual-source computed tomography (CT) to depict and characterize atherosclerotic coronary plaques. METHODS Contrast-enhanced CT was performed in 25 human heart specimens with a total of 322 histologically dete...
